On one card, Nicole Bishop writes, “Are you the coronavirus? Because you take my breath away.”

“We do a lot of jokes,” said the “Cards for Comfort” co-creator. “All of the cards have a personal message.”

Like another card that says, “Nancy, are you a pandemic? Because you have my heart on lockdown.”

People living in Gulf Coast Village love their “Cards for Comfort” created just for them by nearby students.

“When we started out Cards for Comfort, we did a lot with the retirement homes in our local area,” said Owen Foster-Hickey, who started the project with Bishop.

Over the past three months, the two have each made hundreds of cards themselves and recruited about three dozen of their Cape Coral High School peers for the service project.

“We made over 15,000 and that’s not counting the project we are currently doing,” Bishop said.

“We did the entire Cape Coral Police Department, Waste Pro…,” Foster-Hickey said.

The teens also make sidewalk art, signs and videos to let people in our community know they’re thinking of them and that they’re appreciated.

“The most rewarding part of this whole thing is just knowing that we’re gonna make someone’s day better,” Foster-Hickey said.

It’s an effort earning these Southwest Florida students an “A” in community service.

The teens are currently creating cards for firefighters and post office workers in our area. They hope Cards for Comfort expands as a club when school resumes.
