A local World War II veteran got the reunion he’s waited for.

Joe Pendrak reunited with his furry friend in a unique way while at a healthcare facility. The last time he got to see his dog was a month ago.

Many across Southwest Florida have been separated from their loved ones, disconnected from their life partners and best friends, and, in some cases, man’s best friend.

The 100-year-old retired WWII aviator reunited with his dog Brandy inside Solaris Healthcare Charlotte Harbor.

“I’m so happy that we got a chance to bring him over to see Joe because I know Joe misses him tremendously,” said Jaclyn Harvell, who adopted the poodle with her husband, Leroy, a few months back now that Pendrak needs full-time care.

“This is an amazing person. He is a war hero. We are proud to be taking care of his dog for him,” Harvell said.

Their reunion makes everyone “furget” about their “ruff” days.

Even if separated by physical touch, “This just means so much to him because it does to us too,” Harvell said.

Governor Ron DeSantis extended a ban on nursing home visitors earlier this month. It is now in place through Sept. 5.
