How one group of friends continued their happy hour at a social distance, of course

Coronavirus has kept many in our community from seeing their loved ones. Including Carolyn Ellis, who is traveling on a golf cart to get to them.

Really though, it was a group decision to meet at Vi at Bentley Village. “We were missing each other so we decided that we could do something safely if we did it on our carts,” Ellis said.

Marlene Gieer jumped on her golf cart too, rolling towards the designated meeting place.

“Ee decided hey we gotta get out of our rooms for a while so we’ve been socializing this is our way to socialize,” Gieer said.

Once all the ladies arrived, they parked their carts at a social distance and enjoyed their social hour much like they did before the pandemic began.

“We talk about our day. What’s happening in the world? Just how’s our family,” Gieer said. “We’re ladies we have a lot we like to talk about! So we need this hour and a half of socializing,” she added, laughing.

Their version of happy hour is not about alcoholic beverages but about companionship and conversation.

“We talk about everything! Our outfits and what fashions are in,” Dorothy Bruggeman said, laughing. “It means the world to me I look forward to it every day, I really do.”

Getting through the coronavirus pandemic is just easier with a little help from your friends.

Ellis said, “We enjoy each other’s company. We’re friends, we like to be together!”

The ladies meet three days each week and say they’ll continue finding new ways to meet up during this difficult time. They hope you’ll do the same.
