Kyle Patrick Orr, 32, has been sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the stabbing murder of his ex-girlfriend, 30-year-old Jessica Landor, in Cape Coral in 2019.

Cape Coral police responded to apartments in south Cape Coral on Father’s Day June 16, 2019, after receiving a 911 call.

According to CCPD, they received a call with a muffling sound on the open 911 line, then heard what sounded like a female screaming and a male saying “stop”. The line then disconnected and was busy when dispatch called back. Officers arrived at the apartment and found a key broken in the door and keys lying on the ground outside the apartment.

Police found Landor with 16 stab wounds on her body, including a laceration on her neck. She died minutes after police arrived at the scene.

A good Samaritan near the apartment flagged down police and told them about a man running away from the apartments with a knife. Police found the man, who was identified as Orr, hiding behind bushes with a knife. He was bleeding at the time due to defensive wounds caused by Landor.

Orr and Landor originally met through an online dating app, but she had ended their relationship prior to her murder.

Orr pled no contest straight to the court on March 10, giving up his right to a trial. Prosecutors argued for life in prison and received it. He was found guilty and sentenced for one count of second-degree murder.
