A Fort Myers man has been arrested in Lee County on charges out of Sarasota.

Brent Acord, 37, faces two felony charges of grand theft (over $20,000) and criminal use of personal information (over $5,000) in connection to a criminal case in Sarasota.

A victim told the Sarasota Police Department in May that an unknown person was fraudulently using his personal information to obtain credit to buy a vehicle. He learned about this after receiving a letter regarding a vehicle loan that he did not open. SPD detectives learned in April 2020 that the same suspect used the same victim’s information to purchase a powersports vehicle in Punta Gorda.

Fingerprints on application paperwork for the vehicle loan were determined to be Acord’s, SPD said.

Acord was arrested Sept. 11 in Lee County on a separate charge for failure to appear.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Ross Revill at (941) 263-6092 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by phone at (941) 366-8477 or online.
