Cape Coral police are conducting a death investigation at a home on Triton Court East near downtown. (Credit: WINK News) A woman was found dead late Saturday inside her Cape Coral home, leaving neighbors stunned and full of questions. It happened at a home on Triton Court East, just south of Cape Coral Parkway and near downtown. Neighbors who spoke with WINK News on Monday called the loss “devastating” and said they’ll never forget the screaming they heard. “And it’s … it’s very upsetting that she had to pass away. It’s very, very upsetting,” said an emotional Virginia Jablonski. Cape Coral police have only said detectives are investigating a death. Jablonski’s husband said the trouble started Saturday morning. “He said, ‘My neighbor, I saw my neighbor punch his mom and his dad. He punched his mom in the face, and he kicked his dad and his dad was on the ground,'” Jablonski described. The violence stopped when officers arrived, she said, but the officers left, leaving the son with his mom and dad. “The police didn’t arrest the guy at that time, which we found to be weird. And my husband said that was because they said they didn’t want to press charges.” Jablonski said her husband regrets not telling police officers what he saw Saturday morning. “It’s traumatizing for my husband. He feels bad that he did not come out and say something because he was in fear of retaliation.” The police report states that everyone at the house denied there was any violence. The report notes one person walked with a limp and the second person had severe bruising to the left eye and scratch marks on the neck. The third person, identified only as Michael, was “very agitated and angry.” “It’s just like something snapped in him. We just don’t understand what it was,” Jablonski said. The family refused all help and the officers left, but the Jablonskis wonder if they had said something, might their neighbor still be alive? That night, Jablonski said they heard the son screaming. “‘My mom is dead. My mom’s in there lying dead,'” she recalled hearing him say. Cape Coral police came back to the home and found the woman dead. A man at the scene told WINK News it was his wife who died. “Both of them are very nice. And they would probably give the shirt off their back if they had to,” Jablonski said. Police have not identified anyone involved, but Cape Coral police arrested a man who lives at the same address as the woman who died. Michael Tortolani is in custody on charges that include battery and drug possession. He has not been connected to the death, which remains under investigation.
