Cape Coral man arrested after fatal crash, faces DUI manslaughter charges

A Cape Coral man was arrested following a Sunday morning crash that resulted in the death of the other vehicle’s passenger, and now faces charges of DUI manslaughter.

According to investigators, Nathaniel Christian O’Dea, 28, was driving his Ford Explorer south on Burnt Store Road at 3:41 a.m. as the other driver headed north in a Nissan Altima. O’Dea drifted into the north lane, and the other driver attempted to avoid him but collided head-on with the other vehicle.

O’Dea suffered minor injuries and refused medical transport. The other driver was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the Altima passenger was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

After O’Dea was determined by Cape Coral police to be at fault in the crash, he was given a breath test which showed him to have a blood alcohol level of 0.181 and 0.173. It was also determined that the other driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.151.

O’Dea was arrested and faces charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI causing serious bodily injury and DUI causing property damage.
