Investigators search for man wanted for arson of his home while family was inside

Investigators are searching for suspect John Gibbons, 34, who is wanted for setting his own house on fire in Lehigh Acres when family members were inside over the weekend.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, Saturday, Gibbons set his home on fire along Douglas Lane “knowing full well that there were family members inside.”

Our crew also went to the scene before Gibbons was named by investigators.

After the suspected arson, investigators say Gibbons was seen leaving the home in a Mercedes convertible. Gibbons was last spotted in North Fort Myers, but investigators say he could have gone as far as Georgia.

There are no reported injuries due to the house fire.
