The son of former Lee County Sheriff Rod Shoap was arrested Tuesday after a hit-and-run crash in the Buckingham area.

Rodney Mark Shoap Jr., 45, left the scene after crashing into a UPS delivery truck at Cemetery Road and Skates Circle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they found Shoap’s vehicle in the driveway of a home on Higgins Avenue, north of the crash scene, and he ran before being quickly captured. A search of Shoap turned up 18 Xanax pills, the sheriff’s office report said.

Shoap faces charges of hit-and-run and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He has been booked into the Lee County Jail six times since 2009, with charges ranging from DUI to driving without a license.

His father, Rod Shoap, was Lee County sheriff from 2001 to 2004.
