A Lee County family was reunited with their pet after she went missing for more than a year.

The dog named Georgia was a little on the skinny side after being gone from her family for so long, but otherwise, she’s OK.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services said someone found Georgia and brought her in. They were able to get her back home to her family in Alva, thanks to a microchip.

“Thrilled they got her back, but they got her back because somebody did the right thing the second time around, brought her to us. We were able to call them and get their dog back to them,” said Karen Fordiani.

Animal Services said microchipping your pet increases the rate of finding them by 54%. It costs $10 for a microchip at Animal Services. You can also get it done at your vet’s office.
