Homicide shooting investigation underway in Lehigh Acres

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the area of Grant Boulevard and Milwaukee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies say when they arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound who later died from her injuries.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has assumed the active investigation and says this is an isolated incident.

Neighbor Carlos Cruz said he saw flashing lights and heard a helicopter overhead, “I was very worried of course because the front of my house was filled with cops so I said what happened at my house?” But, it wasn’t at his house.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said during a 4 p.m. press conference that “no stone will be left unturned” and that were questioning residents in the area to gather more information. He added, a search warrant for a nearby home was obtained and they were executing it “as we speak”.

Roselande Elozier said she didn’t see or hear anything, and lives a few blocks down the street, but despite that, “There was tons and tons of police here asking me questions and I’m like, ‘Okay, I don’t know what’s going on,’ and he was just like, somebody was shooting here and I said, ‘I didn’t hear any gunshots’ and he said ‘yeah, well somebody died on the other street over there’.”

Marceno reiterated that it was not random and they believe the victim was targeted by the shooter.
