Southwest Florida cold weather shelters and donation drop-off sites

Temperatures are starting to drop, and many organizations in Southwest Florida are helping those who may need a place to stay to avoid being stuck out in the cold.

LEE COUNTY

Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Lee County will be mobilizing its Cold Weather Street Outreach Team and will have staff and volunteers stationed at the following designated areas with coffee to assist in transporting people to shelter due to the cold weather:

  • Lions Park – 2550 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33901
  • Fort Myers Regional Library – 2450 First St, Fort Myers, FL 33901
  • Rosa Parks Bus Terminal – 2250 Widman Way, Fort Myers, FL 33919
  • Edison Mall Bus Terminal – 4125 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33901
  • Cape Coral Transfer Center – Cape Coral, FL 33904
  • Vacant Shopping Plaza at 41 and Hancock Bridge
  • Fort Myers Beach Transfer Station
  • Schandler Hall – 419 Florence Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905

From there, crews will help people find shelter. Donations of blankets, socks, gloves, mittens, scarves and hand warmers are also needed. Drop off donations at any of these locations:

  • North Fort Myers Park & Recreation Center – 2000 N Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers, FL 33903
    • Mon – Thurs: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Fri: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Sat and Sun: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Veterans Park Recreation Center – 55 Homestead Rd S, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936
    • Mon – Thurs: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Wa-Ke-Hatchee Recreation Center – 16760 Bass Rd, Fort Myers, FL 33908
    • Mon – Thurs: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Fri: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Sat and Sun: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers will be distributing these items Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. at or near LeeTran bus stops.

HENDRY COUNTY

The United Way House at 133 N. Bridge St. in LaBelle is offering shelter Tuesday night, but visitors must be in by midnight.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

The Charlotte County Homeless Coalition, 1476 Kenesaw St. in Port Charlotte, will be providing shelter. It will be accepting overnight guests between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. The American Red Cross will be supporting the shelter with cots.

COLLIER COUNTY

St. Matthew’s House will have its two shelters open Tuesday night at the Campbell Lodge at 2001 Airport Rd. S., in Naples, and the Immokalee Friendship House at 602 W. Main St.

Because of social distancing, the Campbell Lodge Shelter will only be able to accept eight to 10 men and three to five women (genders housed separately). Each will be given a cot and a blanket as well as some snacks, if available. Check-in starts at 8 p.m. The Immokalee Friendship House shelter will accept up to a combination of six men and women because of social distancing. They’ll also get a cot and blanket as well as snacks and breakfast. Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m.
