Credit: Hendry County Sheriff’s Office. Hendry County Sheriff’s Office confirms Wednesday an inmate who escaped Tuesday night was brought back into custody by U.S. Marshals Service. Inmate Miguel Nunez, 25, was brought back to Hendry County Jail after he escaped during an attempted transfer to SalusCare treatment facility in Fort Myers. HCSO says Tuesday night, after a transfer to a treatment facility in Lee County, and the release of custody of the inmate to the treatment center, the deputy was returning to the transport vehicle and heard someone shout out, “He’s running.” They received information that indicated Nunez might have called someone to pick him up, and that he might have returned to LaBelle. Deputies were searching for the vehicle believed to have picked up Nunez. Deputies, aviation units and K9 units were first looking in the Fort Myers area near McGregor Baptist Church on 3750 Colonial Blvd., before they were alerted that he might no longer be in the area. HCSO then spent the morning searching for Nunez near his home in the area of Jeronimo Road in LaBelle. Investigators spoke to family members who believed he might be hiding somewhere in the county. A spokesperson for HCSO spoke to us and explained how it impacted the community. “It has been an extremely hectic day, and not just for law enforcement but even more so for parents,” HCSO Capt. Susan Harrelle told WINK News. “They have been concerned. We were inundated so much that we had difficulties using our own lines to call out from time to time because we were flooded with calls from parents who were concerned about there children. According to HCSO, Nunez was eventually found at a home in the 900 block of Tropicana Street in LaBelle. At that point, he surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody again by U.S. Marshals Service. He was originally arrested on outstanding warrants for burglary and grand theft. Nunez was taken back to Hendry County Jail, where he is being held under strict observation pending additional charges from Lee County.
