A Lehigh Acres man accused of killing a 17-month old baby in October of last year is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Quintavis Tarver, 24, has his first appearance in court Saturday morning. He is accused of second-degree murder.

Tarver was taking care of his girlfriend’s baby at the time of the emergency. He called 911 to report the baby was not breathing.

Police and EMS responded to the home in the 3300 block of Handy Court and took the child to Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The baby died the next day.

Authorities have not released details about the baby’s injuries, but during Tarver’s first appearance on Saturday, details were disclosed, including that Tarver had admitted to causing injury to the baby girl.

Tarver remains in custody. If he makes bond and is released, there is a no-contact order with the victim’s family and he is to stay away from minors. He will also have an electronic monitor.

His next court date is on March 1 at 8:30 a.m.
