Community members concerned with speeding on Logan Blvd in Collier County

People are upset after they say drivers speed down a road near their homes, causing  dangerous situations.

People who live in communities off Logan Boulevard in Collier County told us speeding vehicles, including dump trucks, fly down the county road near them. It worries drivers who often have their kids with them.

Iveta Lukosiute is no stranger to the roadway.

“We live in Stone Creek, so we take Logan Boulevard ten times a day,” Lukosiute said.

She says, when she goes the speed limit, people are tailing her so close it’s dangerous.

“I’m always with kids,” Lukosiute said. “I have a newborn, and I have a 4-year-old, so for me, I don’t want someone on my back.”

Although it can be a nice short cut, many have also noticed Logan Blvd. is a heavily traveled truck road as well.

“I’ve heard about the dump trucks,” Lukosiute said.

We decided to track the mileage driving down the new road and found out the stretch does not have any stop lights or stop signs for more than four miles, which some say could be the problem.

“They are long stretches of roads, so they just go fast,” John Bahr said.

Some believe a heightened law enforcement presence could be part of a solution.

“I think they should put cops there more often,” Lukosiute said. “Once they get tickets, they will stop, I think.”

Logan Boulevard is a county-owned road, so we reached out to Collier County to see if it’s heard about a safety issue and if there was something to do about it. We are still waiting to hear back.

“If everyone knows there’s a speed trap, they won’t speed anymore,” Bahr said.
