The search for a weapon in a homicide in Naples turned up empty.

A tip sent investigators to a river after a recent plea from Crime Stoppers on a 2017 homicide that left 25-year-old Franklin Francois dead.

Investigators spent Wednesday morning searching for a gun in River Park East.

Francois was killed in Nov. 2017.

Divers from the Naples Police Department and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office searched the Gordon River for the weapon.

Authorities received the tip after recently translating a flier into Creole by Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $3,000 reward.

“That may also encourage somebody that has information that hasn’t come forward yet to go wait a minute, this case is back, it’s active, there’s movement on this case. I know something about this case. That cash rewards looking pretty good, let me share my information,” said Trish Routte of Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
