Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sebastian at early Friday afternoon to announce a new Jonhson&Johnson vaccine site there.

DeSantis announced the new COVID-19 vaccine site in an effort to get Brevard County over 60% of seniors vaccinated.

They hope to do about 1,000 vaccines per day at the site.

The governor also says just under 3 million seniors across the state have been vaccinated, meaning that the state is nearing 60% vaccinated seniors.

According to DeSantis, the rolling 7-day case average for coronavirus is down 84% from January 6 to March 8 among the senior population. He hopes that is due to the vaccine effort.

The state wants to set up more Johnson & Johnson-only vaccine sites to help get more people vaccinated.

The governor also hopes to open up vaccine registration to those 60+ on Monday, March 15.
