We learned Cape Coral police officers shot and killed a violent pit bull after it had killed one dog and attacked two others and their respective owners.

One of the dogs that survived the attack is service dog Lilly, who was recovering from puncture wounds Thursday.

Lilly’s owners say she had to get a booster shot because the pit bull wasn’t up to date on its vaccinations.

This attack happened along Del Prado Linear Park.

According to a Lee County Animal Services report, the pit bull killed another owner’s chihuahua first and then turned its sights on the same owner’s beagle, who tried to get the dog into the car, but the pit bull jumped in their car and attacked the beagle.

After that, the pit bull ran and attacked Lilly.

Investigators say they couldn’t get the pit bull off her, so they shot the pit bull once. When that didn’t faze the dog, they say they shot it two more times.

The pit bull died after the shooting, and its owner was issued two citations.
