Collier County commissioners will discuss new safety improvement plans for the Logan Boulevard extension in a meeting Tuesday.

They will be adding two median crossovers, which will allow cars to turn around more easily. The biggest issue many people have with the road is the trucks that are passing through. In order to get to the bottom of it, Collier County actually had staff follow some of the trucks to find out where the problem areas were.

They determined the trucks were coming from three locations: a Collier complex at Heritage Bay, a new charter school site near Fogg’s Nursery and Mulch Supply, and a development across from Twin Eagles. After this discovery, the county approached the trucking companies and asked if they could alter their routes. Shortly after that, the truck traffic decreased by about 3%.

Commissioner Andy Solis says they have received countless emails regarding this issue, and Commissioner Penny Taylor says it was that public outcry that showed the county something needed to change.

Those new medians will be constructed this summer, and Collier County says it will continue to work with the truck companies along with the Sheriff’s Office to make Logan Boulevard safer.
