Lee County Sheriff’s Office responds to a shooting with injuries at The Fountains at Forestwood on Brantley Road in south Fort Myers Thursday, June 24, 2021. Credit: WINK News. Lee County deputies are investigating a shooting that injured one person Thursday afternoon. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the person injured was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person of interest was detained, according to LCSO. The call came in around 1:30 p.m. from The Fountains at Forestwood on Brantley Road. More than a dozen lee county sheriff’s deputies blanketed the property to take pictures and collect evidence. Tom Huston told us he heard gunfire from his apartment. “We heard two shots in rapid succession and told my daughter that that was not fireworks because it happened too fast. But I didn’t know really where it came from. I knew it came from down there, but I didn’t know just where,” Huston said. “All of a sudden, this place was full of police, and then a chopper was flying around, so we knew that, and then they were putting up the yellow tape, so I figured, ‘Well, I’ll go sit on the porch,’ and my daughter said, ‘No, you’re not going outside.” Behind the crime scene, tape investigators collected shell casings and evidence, including a pair of shoes. Jeffery Kinsey said he’s always known his apartment complex to be a quiet place, but not Thursday. “There were two officers over there with weapons pulled, and I didn’t really know what was going on. Then, they told me shots were fired, to get back in my apartment right away,” Kinsey said. “A little shocked and surprised because this is usually a pretty quiet place. Like I said, I’ve lived here 27 years, and I’ve never seen it like this.” Brantley Road was shut down as authorities searched the area. The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the victim or the person of interest at this time.
