Fort Myers police have arrested a man accused of attempting to assault a driver near downtown Fort Myers.

Kyle Barret, 26, was booked into Lee County Jail on Thursday and faces charges of assault for the incident that occurred on June 21.

Police said Barret tried to open the front passenger door of a woman’s vehicle at the intersection of Second and Fowler streets. He was unable to open the door and instead jumped on the hood and started to bang on the windshield.

Police said they received tips in the case that led to the identification of Barret.

Officers were able to find Barret based on the description of the vehicle he was in and backtracking it by using downtown cameras.

Barrett bonded out of custody later Thursday night.
