Danny downgraded to a depression after making landfall in South Carolina

Published: Updated:

Danny made landfall as a tropical storm north of Hilton Head (on Pritchards Island, South Carolina) just before 8 p.m. Monday. The storm formed Monday afternoon.

As of the 11 p.m. advisory Monday, Danny has weakened to a tropical depression. The system is expected to dissipate by tomorrow and all watches and warnings have been discontinued.

Elsewhere in the tropics, we monitor Danny as well as another tropical wave. Slow development is possible over the next five days as the wave moves westward toward the Lesser Antilles.

The next storm name on the list is Elsa.
