A 56-year-old Boynton Beach man was arrested in Collier County on Friday after he struck a bicyclist and didn’t stop, troopers say.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael Moncada, 56, was headed west on Davis Boulevard, attempting to enter a plaza, when his SUV collided with the 46-year-old male cyclist from Naples. It happened just before midnight.

The cyclist was thrown from his bike and taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Moncada continued into the plaza, exited his vehicle, and entered his room at the Red Roof Inn.

His vehicle was impounded and he was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries. He has since been released from jail.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in traffic crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
