The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that killed at least one person on I-75 early Sunday.

The 3-vehicle crash occurred 2:45 a.m. near mile marker 106, just before the Pine Ridge Road exit.

A 24-year-old Hialeah man who was a passenger in one of the vehicles died in the crash.

According to troopers, a pickup driven by a 23-year-old Naples man was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-75 when he collided with a pickup driven by a 26-year-old Miami man who was driving in the correct direction. The 26-year-old driver sustained minor injuries but his passenger died.

The wrong-way driver sustained minor injuries, FHP said.

After impact, the pickup collided with a third vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Naples woman who had a 26-year-old passenger in this vehicle. No injuries were reported for the people in the third vehicle.

The crash closed I-75 South for more than six hours.

The investigation is ongoing, Florida Highway Patrol said, adding that charges are pending.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in traffic crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
