Veterans Day is on Thursday. This is a day that was created to honor those that served our country. Celebrations to honor our military members are already underway across Southwest Florida, including NCH and the Fort Myers Rotary Club.

Lieutenant General Gary Speer came to Fort Myers to explain what this Veterans Day meant to him.”It takes a profound strength and honor to wear this nation’s uniform, the one day they all remove the uniform, no amount of time can ever sever the golden thread uniting those veterans in a unique and everlasting bond,” said Lt. General Speer.

NCH hosted its second annual Veterans Day Flag Holding ceremony. This ceremony marked an emotional moment for Air Force reserve member Jose Martinez.

“Most of the time, you see the ceremony it’s for fallen soldiers, and that’s the thing that comes to my mind. The flashback of seeing the family members receiving the flag and, for me, it’s an honor,” said Martinez.

This was an honor for Martinez and retired Major General James Dozier. “Veterans have provided this umbrella of security under which we can live as citizens of the free world. Without that umbrella of security, nothing else that we want to do in this great country would be possible,” James said.

The ceremony honors those who are serving today and every day.

NCH held its Veterans Day event specifically to honor staff members and volunteers who have or currently are serving our nation.
