A Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigation is underway as divers spent most of Wednesday morning searching a Cape Coral canal.

The canal is located in northwest Cape Coral near NW 17th Terrace and 18th Place.

The sheriff’s office has not released any information on what they are searching for. A spokesperson said it is part of an “active investigation.”

Crews spent more than five hours before clearing out Wednesday afternoon.

The water is deep and it sits low near a sand wall.

A detective also walked up to a home across the street.

A neighbor in the area told WINK News a detective asked to see her home surveillance from last week.

No other information is known at this time.
