A burglar is on the run after two victims had their car windows smashed in and items stolen from their cars just blocks apart. This happened near the intersection of US-41 and Neapolitan Way in Naples.

Both of these victims were working while their windows were smashed. Once they returned to their cars after their shift, the front passenger windows were shattered.

Now, for many in Naples, their sense of security was shattered as well.

Naples resident Jacquline Phillips says this scares her. “It’s scary that there’s people breaking in all over the place,” she said.

Richard Baptiste eats at that restaurant enough to know that he’d describe it as a friendly and quiet neighborhood. “Oh wow, that’s pretty tough,” he said.

Two restaurant employees told the Naples Police Department on Friday that their front passenger windows were smashed. The first of these burglaries happened along Neapolitan Way.

“This is not something that happens all the time. Unfortunately, but during the holidays, you know you’re gonna get stuff like that,” Baptiste said.

The second burglary occurred just an hour and a half later, on US-41. Dawn Hejlik lives in Naples. “It’s unsettling,” Hejlik said.

“People are desperate for money, and they are just going to hit an easy target,” said Phillips.

Dawn says she tries to be vigilant, so things like this don’t happen to her. “With more and more people coming to Naples, it’s just good to be aware that you need to be contentious and look out,” said Hejlik.

The suspects actually broke two car windows during the second burglary. “That’s a snatch and grab, and it takes two minutes or less,” said Phillips.

Those who live nearby told WINK News they would be more aware after this incident. “That’s a snatch and grab, and it takes two minutes or less,” said Baptiste.

Again, the burglar is still on the run. So, if you were a victim or if you have any information about this case, you are being asked to call the Naples Police Department at (239) 213-3000.
