Lyft driver dies after suffering from medical episode on I-75

Florida Highway Patrol says a North Fort Myers man died after suffering a medical episode along the interstate.

According to FHP, at around 12:30 p.m. a Volkswagon SUV was heading south on I-75. Troopers received a call for service near mile marker 120 in Estero.

Upon arrival, troopers learned that the 66-year-old man was a Lyft driver with a passenger in his back seat. The driver has suffered a medical episode during the drive. The passenger was able to grab hold of the steering wheel and safely bring the SUV to a stop along the shoulder.

The passenger administered CPR and was able to call 911. EMS transported the 66-year-old North Fort Myers man to the hospital but he was later pronounced dead.
