Credit: FHP Florida Highway Patrol says a North Fort Myers man died after suffering a medical episode along the interstate. According to FHP, at around 12:30 p.m. a Volkswagon SUV was heading south on I-75. Troopers received a call for service near mile marker 120 in Estero. Upon arrival, troopers learned that the 66-year-old man was a Lyft driver with a passenger in his back seat. The driver has suffered a medical episode during the drive. The passenger was able to grab hold of the steering wheel and safely bring the SUV to a stop along the shoulder. The passenger administered CPR and was able to call 911. EMS transported the 66-year-old North Fort Myers man to the hospital but he was later pronounced dead. The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in traffic crashes citing Marsy’s Law.
