Moore Haven Middle-High School student arrested for having gun on campus

A 17-year-old Moore Haven Middle-High School student was arrested Tuesday and accused of having a gun on campus.

According to the Glades County School District, deputies conducted a random drug search of student backpacks and a dog was alerted to the suspect’s bag.

The district said deputies searched the bag and found a magazine for a gun and drug paraphernalia in the bag. They also found a .45 caliber gun in his possession.

The student was arrested and removed from campus.

“Our students and staff’s safety is of the utmost importance to us and therefore we will treat any and all weapon and drug-related issues of the highest of priority. We appreciate the Glades County Sheriff’s Department, and Sherriff David Hardin for being proactive and acting immediately and professionally.,” the district said in its statement.

He faces charges of possession of a firearm on school premises and grand theft of a firearm
