The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says one person has been detained after a shooting in North Fort Myers on Sunday morning.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating in the parking lot of the Arby’s on North Cleveland Ave. Deputies also had caution tape up and evidence markers on the ground near the intersection of North Tamiami Trail and Cabana Ave.

Deputies have since arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. They say one person was shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. That person was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Kenette Ramos Sanchez, 23, was arrested for Sunday morning’s shooting.

Mary Evans says she visits the restaurant across North Tamiami Trail at least once a week for breakfast or lunch. “It’s a tragedy. Any shooting is a tragedy. It’s a hopeless situation, in my opinion,” Evans said.

Evans says it’s shocking because this is usually a quiet and peaceful community. “I really ache for people who are involved. I’m sorry for people who resort to violence, and that’s really sad… That’s the sad lack of hope when you have to resort to violence,” said Evans.

A witness told WINK News that they heard more than 20 gunshots.

One person was detained at the Arby’s scene, and deputies seemed to be zeroing in on a red Volkswagen.

The sheriff’s office did not release any other details on the shooting but says there is no danger to the public.

“For someone to stop long enough to do damage is very unfortunate,” Evans said.

Ramos Sanchez faces an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
