The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide in Lehigh Acres.

Deputies found the body of a man near a vehicle on the side of the road at Cervantes Street East and Long Avenue. K-9s aided in that search.

They received a call about it just before 8 a.m. on Friday.

Those who live across the street from where the body was found told WINK News they heard a half dozen shots at about 4 a.m. on Friday. Then, they say they heard a woman screaming.

They described it as a “suspicious call.”

The investigation remains active, and deputies have not said how the man died.

Neighbors nearby said the community is not a quiet place to live. And they say it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, based on activity at a home right next to where the body was found.

I knew that something like that was going to happen because, I mean, sometimes they start the parties from 2 a.m. till 6 a.m. Sometimes I leave to work. I could hear the music going on… even in the mornings.”

One neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said they constantly worry about their safety. “I always tell my family, you know, we have to be careful about that. You know, we’re always afraid of our security,” they said.

In November, four people were shot right by that exact same house.

“It has to stop,” said Kathy Rockovitz. “This has got to stop.”

However, LCSO hasn’t said that that home is connected to this investigation. Residents, however, believe it could be.

Could have been one of my kids. I mean, they’ve been shooting. You don’t know if they’re shooting into the air, to the ground, you don’t know.”

Those who live here say there have been out-of-control parties at that home for months on end. Often, those parties last until the wee hours of the morning.

But, again, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t said that the house is even connected to the body found nearby.

People who live along this street say they want to go back to the quiet, peaceful, and safe community this place used to be. “I was planning on selling my property and moving from here. I’m concerned about my kids.”

Lee County deputies have not said if they have made an arrest or if they have a suspect.

This is a developing story and will be updated once more information becomes available.
