A Cape Coral man is under arrest after he fled from Florida Highway Patrol troopers and was later identified after being involved in a fatal crash.

Florida Highway Patrol says on Feb 2, they attempted a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger on US-41 near the Edison Bridge for speeding and driving without headlights. Troopers say the driver, later identified as Percy Wilfredo Perez, stopped briefly before speeding away. They say he was able to elude troopers.

FHP began an investigation to determine who was driving the Charger when it fled.

On Tuesday, Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash US 41 and Littleton Road in North Fort Myers. While on the scene, they identified the Dodge Charger involved as the same one that fled from troopers ten days prior.

Troopers arrested Perez, who is now facing a charge for fleeing and eluding law enforcement.

FHP did not say if Perez would face charges in Tuesday’s fatal crash in North Fort Myers. They say that investigation is ongoing.
