Lee County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. (Credit: LCSO) A homicide investigation is underway in Lehigh acres after a man died in the hospital after being shot. Deputies found the man’s car with bullet holes in it. Neighbors say they don’t think the spot where deputies say the man was shot and killed is correct. John Flores woke up to the crime scene tape, but he does not believe a murder happened in his neighborhood. “We didn’t hear no gunshots. We didn’t hear anything. We were up at night, till almost 11 o’clock at night. And nothing when we woke up in the noise when we saw the police line and the police officers there,” said Flores. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the killing in a Facebook post. Deputies say the man was shot near Bennington Drive and Bairiue Circle in Lehigh Acres on Saturday night. The area is within walking distance from where Flores lives with his wife. “You get different stories. They found the body. Then I heard they found the car.” Michele Flores said, “We don’t feel that it’s something that happened here. It doesn’t connect.” Another neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said the same thing. He knew deputies found the victim’s car with bullet holes. He says if there was a shooting in the neighborhood Saturday night, he’d know. “We have pretty good cameras, and we watched the video from 6:00 p.m. until about four o’clock the next morning, and there were no gunshots on our cameras, and we got really good audio.” While the people in Lehigh wait for more information from the sheriff’s office, they are left to form their own conclusions. “It just doesn’t make sense of how they connect with the person that showed up at the hospital on being either shot here in our culdesac,” said Michele Flores. Michele Flores said she worries word of shooting will paint her neighborhood in a bad light. She and her husband said they turned over their surveillance video to deputies. All the sheriff’s office will say about the killing is that it is part of an active investigation.
