Credit: WINK News The Lee County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to reports of a suspicious package at the Lee County Tax Collector’s office in downtown Fort Myers Wednesday morning and ultimately deemed it safe. The Fort Myers Police Department and Fort Myers Fire Department also arrived at 2480 Thompson Street, where the roadways surrounding the building were blocked off and the building was evacuated while the investigation took place. At around 10:15 a.m., FMPD confirmed the package was safe and posed no threat to the business or community and said the roadways should be clear within the hour. Employees have already been allowed back into the building. The building has been reopened to the public.
