FGCU to host ASUN Women’s Championship Final after win over Stetson

The FGCU women’s basketball team beat the Stetson Hatters on Wednesday. The win means FGCU will host the Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Championship final at Alico Arena.

The team that wins the tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

On Wednesday night, the FGCU Eagles hosted Stetson, who got off to a quick start and led the Eagles 34-28 at the half. The Eagles came out in the second half and rallied, stepping up their defensive game and outscoring the Stetson Hatters in the third and fourth quarters to come out on top with an 82-67 victory.

Leading the way for the Eagles was the ASUN Player of the Year Kierstan Bell, who finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The win over Stetson advances FGCU to the ASUN Championship Final. Fans at the game on Wednesday were ecstatic with the win and exciting game. “We made some great shots. I loved it. It was a great game.”

The next game for FGCU is the ASUN Final against the Jacksonville Dolphins.

“It should be a great game. It should be a great atmosphere. It should be a lot of fun. It’ll be nice to see every seat filled for this thing,” said FGCU Women’s Basketball Coach Karl Smesko.

Thanks to Wednesday’s win, FGCU will be hosting that game at Alico Arena on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
