1 man, 3 minors arrested in connection with armed robbery in Fort Myers

WINK News is learning more about a crash that left a busy Fort Myers intersection shut down for hours on Sunday.

A 20-year-old Fort Myers man was arrested along with three minors in connection with an armed robbery on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Charles Davis and the other three are robbing a bicyclist at gunpoint on Fairview Avenue in Fort Myers.

Now, we’re learning that the crash may have been the result of a car chase. WINK News recently received this information from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

There have been several violent chases involving stolen vehicles lately in Lee County.

Two violent scenes were situated miles apart. The second scene on Sunday near MLK Blvd. and Ortiz Ave.

Regina Hamilton says she witnessed that crash. “It was very, like metal pieces flying everywhere and a lot of chaos,” said Hamilton.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said one of his deputies sacrificed his cruiser to stop four people in a stolen vehicle from getting away with a violent hold-up. They stopped a man on a bike, beat him, held a gun to his head, and took his wallet.

The subsequent crash left the road closed for hours. “It was upsetting to see,” Hamilton said.

The first scene took place on Thursday in Lehigh Acres. It turned out to be a deadly deputy-involved shooting at the intersection of SR-82 and Gunnery Road. The shooting disrupted traffic for almost 20 hours. A deputy took a bullet to the shoulder, and the suspect died.

The major difference in these violent scenes is that LCSO has already boasted that those involved in Sunday’s crash are in the “Marceno Motel.”

As for Thursday’s deadly shooting, LCSO still hasn’t said much.

WINK News Safety and Security Specialist Rich Kolko told WINK News reporter Michael Hudak that silence in the case of the deputy-involved shootings is deliberate.

“They want to cross every T, dot every I, because it’s likely that the results of the investigation will be looked at by the state’s attorney to see if that deputy had followed protocol and procedures,” Kolko said.

Lee County deputies were able to locate the stolen in the Ortiz Ave. crash on Sunday. That is because the plates were picked up by the license plate readers in Fort Myers.
