Naples Airport conducting noise study to find ways to decrease sound pollution

Complaints about the noise at the Naples Airport are retaking center stage. For years, people living in the area have complained about how loud it is. The Naples Airport is now looking into ways to quiet things down.

The sound of jets is heard multiple times a day and tests the patience of everyone living near the Naples Airport.

“Sitting on your back lanai, having a glass of wine with your out-of-town friends, and your conversation is interrupted four or five times to the point you can’t continue the conversation in the course of an hour,” said Craig Westbay, who lives near the airport.

Jet traffic has been on the rise since the pandemic, and Monday, the public sounded off about the sound.

“Frankly, I don’t care how you do it. Just do it. If we can’t do it now. Then you’ve got to ask yourself, can we continue to let this airport grow? Not only is it out of control, it, in turn, needs to be addressed and addressed now,” said Tom Lauer.

Naples City Council doesn’t have a lot of control over what happens with the Naples Airport in the future, so members are counting on the airport’s noise study.

“The Part 150 noise study is the only mechanism that a local airport governing body has to try and mitigate some impact of the overflight and noise and talk,” said Naples Airport Authority Executive Director Chris Rozansky.

Rozansky said he hopes to send the Federal Aviation Administration recommendations on how to decrease the noise by the end of the year. Things like making aircraft fly higher after takeoff.

As for quick action demanded by people at the meeting? Don’t count on it. “And a noise study is a federally regulated process. So it doesn’t move forward that quickly,” said Rozansky.

the Naples Airport cannot make any major changes on its own, it can only recommend changes to the FAA. The airport has recommended a curfew for pilots to reduce the number of flights during certain time periods.
