A pile of dead birds was found on someone’s property. Deputies say this was a part of a cockfighting ring uncovered in Southwest Florida.

A crash that sent a man to the hospital is what lead deputies to that fighting ring in DeSoto County. And witnesses told DCSO that they were almost hit when a pickup truck rammed another truck out of the driveway. Those witnesses helped the victim and dialed 911.

“Someone just hit the sh** out of this man and hauled a*** both ways,” a neighbor said.

The sheriff’s office said the two men that were arrested were trespassing on the property. They told detectives they were at the home for a job to sell drinks and food.

Some of the roosters inside the cages were still alive when deputies arrived. But, The DeSoto county sheriff’s Office says that three of them died on Tuesday morning at an animal shelter.
