A 53-year-old Cape Coral man will spend 18 years in prison for molesting the children he was supposed to babysit instead.

Paul Fitzgerald Moore was found guilty in two separate cases. His prison sentence will be followed by 10 years of sex offender probation and he will be designated a sex offender for life, according to the state attorney’s office.

The first offense took place between June and Dec. 2019. He inappropriately touched a child in Cape Coral and was charged with two counts of lewd conduct.

He was out on bond when he was rearrested after another family came forward for crimes that occurred prior to his first arrest.

The second offense occurred between Feb. 2014 and Feb. 2019, the state attorney’s office said. He was charged with two counts of lewd conduct and given the same sentences as the first case which will run concurrently.

The crimes came to light when another babysitter overheard one of the children talk about the inappropriate touching.

In both cases, the female victims were under the age of 12.
