A woman who got lost during a nature walk with her husband on Friday was found “stuck in the deepest, marshiest part of the preserve.” Iona McGregor Fire District posted on Saturday that the woman was found at around 11 p.m. after going missing at 4 p.m. near Estero Bay Preserve State Park. Multiple agencies were on scene, including Iona McGregor Fire, Bonita Springs Fire, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Cape Coral Fire Rescue. The woman was found alive and overall well. First responders stayed with the woman until she was able to be taken out of the preserve via helicopter close to 1:30 a.m. A search was underway for hours for an elderly woman. Authorities say the woman got separated from her husband while they were on a nature walk. Jason Martin, the Battalion Chief with Iona McGregor Fire District says they were alerted at 4 p.m. about the disappearance by the sheriff’s office. “We are exhausting all of our capabilities in the sense of LCSO as their helicopter. We’re using drones. We have ATVs four-wheelers and are currently conducting a ground search to cover the entire area,” Martin said.
