Man killed in collision with Kings Highway traffic sign in Port Charlotte

A man was killed after colliding with a traffic sign on Kings Highway in Port Charlotte on Thursday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV driven by a 69-year-old Port Charlotte man was traveling north in the left turn lane of Kings Highway, approaching Midway Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. He traveled off the roadway left, entered the median and collided with a traffic sign.

The SUV came to rest on the median and the driver was later pronounced dead. The investigation remains ongoing.
