Collier County man accused of beating child over stolen necklace

A 39-year-old Collier County man was arrested on Thursday after deputies say he attacked a middle schooler.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest stems from an incident in March where Renaldo Arriaga attacked a classmate of a student known to him over a theft.

The victim allegedly stole a necklace from a classmate and Arriage went to the child’s home to get it back, but once there he broke down a locked fence, and strangled and battered the child, according to the sheriff’s office.

Arriaga is also accused of encouraging the other child to participate in the attack, but the other child was too frightened, according to deputies.

Arriaga is also accused of throwing a large rock through a window of the victim’s residence.

Deputies say he is a documented gang member in Collier County. He faces charges of burglary with a battery, throwing a deadly missile into a dwelling, criminal mischief over $1,000 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
