Alligator comes to front door of Rotonda West home

Published: Updated:

Homeowners on Sportsman Road in Rotonda West woke up to what sounded like a loud knock on the door Monday morning, only to be greeted by a fully grown alligator.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, trappers estimated the alligator to weigh around 350 lbs and stretch 7’7′ long. It was relocated to a sanctuary where it will live among hundreds of acres of swamps and the company of other alligators.

Alligators who lack fear of humans can create dangerous situations, as they may strike unexpectedly, killing or seriously injuring people or pets.
