Battle lines were drawn, and opinions were heard about 300 proposed apartments in Golden Gate Estates.

Organizers and neighbors of a Golden Gate Estates neighborhood met each other face to face on Wednesday after the meeting was canceled Tuesday night because of the sheer number of people who showed up.

Re-zoning seems to be the key issue for the residents in Golden Gate Estates. That’s because if neighbors can stop that from happening they would ultimately stop the 300 apartments from going up.

Dozens of neighbors were shut out on Tuesday due to too many people showing up, and showed up again on Wednesday.

Golden Gate Estates Area Civic Association held the meeting. According to the group’s website, they work to protect the estates and the lifestyle it offers.

A big topic of discussion was the proposed project along 7th Avenue. Neighbors who live along the street say they’re going to get more organized ahead of the public meeting

“Now they just want to come in and re-zone it for multi-family living and that’s not what we bought into and it completely changes the estate property,” said Tammy French of Golden Gate Estates.

A petition is circulating and has hundreds of signatures. All people who are against seeing 300 apartments go up along their quiet street.

There is still no word on a re-schedule date for the public meeting that had to be postponed.
