What makes Chris Cifatte a Silver Circle recipient? It’s not just the years, but the quality of those years and the quality of his journalism. The Silver and Gold Circle are not awards, but a society of honor. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, describes the honor as being “established to recognize individuals who have devoted a quarter of a century or more to the television industry, and who also have made a meaningful and significant contribution to broadcasting and/or new media … The Silver Circle is an elite group of professionals recognized for making a significant contribution to television over a time period of at least 25 years.” Even as a young boy, Cifatte dressed for the part. Leadership defined him at a young age: From American University, where he served as general manager for his college station, to Salisbury, Maryland’s WMDT, where Cifatte was news director and main anchor, to WYFF in Greenville, South Carolina, where he developed his signature style—taking complicated subjects and breaking them down into commonsense yet compelling language.
