The Yacht Club Community Pool is making sure everyone can learn how to swim with free swimming lessons.

The lessons are for kids ages three to five. The program was so popular that as of Monday, classes are full.

Christina Walch is a swim instructor at the Cape Coral club. She said they offer the lessons because everyone needs to know how to swim. But, not every parent can afford private lessons.

“I think it’s really important because first of all we’re in Florida and we’re surrounded by water and second of all if you’re at your grandparents or friend’s house or wherever at a birthday party there’s not always adults paying attention so it keeps them from drowning,” Walch said.

With Florida having so much water and it being summer swim season, the aquatics coordinator with the Yacht Club pool said this is a life-saving skill so the sooner children learn how to swim, the better.

“There’s plenty of canals around plenty of water. We’re in Florida, the wet, the fishing, capital, the world, something like that. So it’s important to know how to swim and let alone the joy the swimming is,” said Max Federobich, aquatics coordinator at the Yacht Club pool.

The city of Cape Coral said, there’s supposed to be another session in the Fall.
