The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a North Fort Myers woman on Thursday after receiving a call from a neighbor about the woman shooting a shotgun into the ground.

Deputies said when they arrived, they heard multiple shots fired and demanded the person inside the home to come out. They said several more shots were fired before 39-year-old Shannon Kraham came out of the house.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kraham appeared intoxicated, and deputies could smell alcohol on her breath. She was placed in the back of a deputy’s vehicle while they investigated.

Deputies said when they were taking Kraham into custody, two children were seen standing in the home’s doorway and appeared to be afraid. Deputies moved them away from the home while the house was cleared.

The sheriff’s office said the two kids told them that they were afraid to leave their rooms because they worried they would be hurt. The children were released into the custody of another family member.

Inside Kraham’s house, LCSO said it found a black shotgun on a chair near an open window. Near the gun, deputies also found 20 spent shotgun casings and nine unfired rounds. According to deputies, the window had a metal overhang obstructing the view of the yard behind the home but had a clear view of the ground.

A neighbor told deputies that he had watched as Kraham became more intoxicated throughout the day before she grabbed a shotgun and started to fire it into the ground from inside the home. The witness told deputies that he tried to speak with Kraham but was unsuccessful, which is when he called law enforcement.

Deputies went to speak with Kraham, who said she knew how to use a gun safely. Deputies tried to question Kraham about her involvement in the shooting and said she only replied with obscenities and told them, “this is the reason my kids are scared of you.”

Based on the investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Kraham was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail.

She is facing a charge for negligently discharging a firearm on residential property and a charge of child neglect.
