The prices of insulin have skyrocketed as some lawmakers have fought to keep the prices down.

Over the weekend republicans removed a proposed $35 per month cap on out-of-pocket spending on insulin for patients enrolled in private insurance.

Many people are disappointed about this news.

Ted Rudich knows the battle between budget And life-saving insulin.

“I see it every day, people are struggling with the high cost of insulin,” Rudich said.

Rudich is the Advocacy Chair for JDRF, a group that raises awareness for people with type one diabetes.

“There’s 1.6 million people that have type one diabetes, and those people have to have insulin on a daily basis, sometimes many, many times during the day. Without insulin, they will die. So it’s very, very important for all americans to be able to afford insulin,” Rudich said.

That’s why Rudich is frustrated with the plan to cap insulin at $35 for insured people was removed from the inflation reduction act.

Over the weekend Republican senators voted to strip the cap. On that list are Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott.

Rubio’s office said the senator did support an amendment to provide $10 insulin for anyone who is low income.

That vote failed.

“So reducing the cost of insulin not only helps the individual patients, but it also helps our overall spending,” Rudich said.

The bill does cap the cost at $35 for Medicare patients.
