Flooded streets left Colonial Boulevard shut down in both directions from Fowler Street to Metro Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

During and after a strong storm, it was difficult to see the curb because the water was so high. While the flooding had subsided by the later evening, the streets were still thoroughly soaked.

Some cars pushed through the flooded street while others did a 180, turning around to avoid the danger.

Fort Myers resident Amy Pere said she saw a lot of the downpour “There was a lot of rain, it’s become an issue. A lot of cars get stuck and waterlogged especially down the street towards them all,” Pere said. “The mall gets flooded as well. See, and now and then a lot, a lot of lightning strikes to take out you know, a lot of, you know, power outages lately. It’s become an issue.”

It’s very challenging to tell how deep the flood waters are and that’s exactly why it’s important to turn around if you come across standing water.
