The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who they say threw baggies of crystal meth into the woods during a traffic stop in North Fort Myers on Monday.

Deputies arrested Jonathan Curtis, 63, of North Fort Myers, after a traffic stop for an equipment violation led to drugs being found.

According to the sheriff’s office, when they stopped Curtis, he became increasingly nervous and had balled up his fists. Deputies say they saw small baggies in his hands before Curtis backed away from them and threw the baggies into the woods.

Deputies then detained Curtis, and said he tried pulling away from them while he was being cuffed, so they took him to the ground and pepper sprayed him.

The deputies tested the substance in the baggies and determined that it was crystal meth.

Curtis is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
